      Methods. This paper highlights nutrition related priority actions to improve the health of women, children, and adolescent girls. It is based on existing policy guidance issued by the World Health Assembly in the form of resolutions or targets; guidelines from the World Health Organization; or the outcome documents of the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2).   But women may experience these illnesses differently – certain symptoms may be more common in women than in men, and the course of the illness can be affected by the sex of the individual. Researchers are only now beginning to tease apart the various biological and psychosocial factors that may impact the mental health of both women and men.

The health of women and children is vital to creating a healthy world. Despite great progress, there are still too many mothers and children dying—mostly from causes that could have been prevented.

Every day, approximately women die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth. 99% of these deaths occur in developing countries.

Violence against women and children is a serious public health concern, with costs at multiple levels of society.
